OTL: Harbs & EDC Speak at Combine – Andrews, Stanley, Cap Room & More

Both GM Eric DeCosta and HC John Harbaugh met with the media for the NFL Combine on Tuesday, which made it a busy day for the Ravens Flock.
First up, they addressed the elephant in the room for the first time since the allegations surfaced.

So, for now, that’s that.
Before we get to what else they said, let’s take a moment to reflect on the last eight seasons:
We blinked, and Lamar Jackson became an 8-year veteran

Feel old yet?
As if we needed another reminder of the travesty that was the MVP race this season, DeCosta gave his two cents when given the chance:
Ravens GM Eric DeCosta on Lamar Jackson: “He’s my MVP. His impact on this team is impossible to measure.”
— Jamison Hensley (@jamisonhensley) February 25, 2025
Moreover, the GM reiterated that Lamar Jackson has a voice and will be involved in some decision-making, a right that he’s earned with his leadership and performance:
“Lamar is a stakeholder. He’s a partner. He’s earned that right.” GM Eric DeCosta on his influence pic.twitter.com/PW49MV94gS
— Baltimore Ravens (@Ravens) February 25, 2025
When it comes to his sway over such decisions though, where does it stop? Will he have the ability – or the desire – to keep his safety blanket for those eight years in town? EDC sent a pretty clear underlying message that TE Mark Andrews may be on his way out given the cap hit he commands:
Ravens GM Eric DeCosta on TE Mark Andrews
“He’ll be in the ring of honor someday….We’ll figure out all the roster machinations over the coming weeks but there’s no bigger Mark Andrews fan than me. He’s been a blessing to have on the team” pic.twitter.com/egxbnkZZgi
— Kevin Oestreicher (@koestreicher34) February 25, 2025
Things could obviously change, but DeCosta’s answer here sounds like a “thank you” farewell. Releasing or trading Andrews will create $11M in much needed Cap space. Would think they could find a trade partner, not sure what the compensation would be tho. https://t.co/ahRWDuzZ3S

Frankly, paired with this quote, I think it’s simply impossible to hang on to Andrews, no matter how much DeCosta loves him:
DeCosta: “We don’t have a lot of cap room.” Said Nick Matteo is “working tirelessly” to create cap space.
— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) February 25, 2025
I hate that the last memory most of us likely will have of Andrews is a critical drop. He deserves a chance to make it right but that cap number is just too high
— BMORE Reeta (@theNFLchick) February 25, 2025
And with that, attention turns toward trade packages:

IF THE RAVENS TRADE MARK ANDREWS…
Is this a fair return? Tried to mirror of Hockenson a bit

— Cole Jackson (@ColeJacksonFB) February 25, 2025
While I agree that Denver could be a great trade partner, I’m not sure Andrews will return quite as much as T.J. Hockenson did. Further, would it be best for the Ravens to acquire more draft picks, or would a player ready to contribute be better?
DeCosta noted that free agency hasn’t been Baltimore’s preferred route historically, but they already have a wealth of draft capital:
Eric DeCota: “We’re not a team that’s gonna make a lot of big splashes [in free agency], generally speaking. We’re probably gonna have 11 draft picks this year. My goal would be to hit on a large percentage of those draft picks.”
— Jonas Shaffer (@jonas_shaffer) February 25, 2025
I know I’ve preached about going all-in recently, but at least getting more picks would help the Ravens go get “their guy” if draft day trades are necessary.
Speaking of being one of their guys, it looks like Marshall EDGE Mike Green – who shined at the Senior Bowl – will not be on that list:

— Spencer Schultz (@ravens4dummies) February 25, 2025
According to Harbaugh, EDGE may not even be a top priority. He sounds an awful lot like Buck Showalter here:

Hopefully it’s all smoke and mirrors. What isn’t head coach or GM talk, as far as I’m concerned, is the optimism around LT Ronnie Stanley. Arguably Baltimore’s top free agent this offseason, Stanley feels like a player the team must return, and it looks like he’s being prioritized accordingly:
DeCosta said he will meet with Ronnie Stanley’s agent this week in Indy and he knows there are no certainties but he’s confident they can get deal done.

Eric DeCosta on potentially re-signing LT Ronnie Stanley: “You never want to say 100%, but I feel good that we’ll have a healthy debate, a good process. We’re going to meet with [his agent] in Indy this week, and I’m optimistic that we’ll be able to get a deal done.”

The Ravens are “optimistic” about extending LT Ronnie Stanley’s contract, per GM EDC.

Harbaugh seems confident in the OL moving forward, but if Stanley leaves, the Ravens will have three question marks. Vorhees has some promise but is not a sure thing, and otherwise… woof.

Luckly, DeCosta does seem confident in numerous Guards in this year’s draft, and it’s a position at which I’d be more comfortable with a rookie starting:
Eric DeCosta said there are a “number of guards” who could be first- or second-round picks and start right away for the team that drafts them. He’s also high on the class’ edge rushers.
— Jonas Shaffer (@jonas_shaffer) February 25, 2025
Meanwhile, Roger Rosengarten is a possibility at LT, but again, is uncertain.

Regardless, the Ravens need to put a strong line together. Amidst the numerous rumors these two figureheads fueled on Tuesday was a fun quote from EDC about King Henry:
Eric DeCosta was asked if he’s on board with Derrick Henry, who said he’d like to finish his career in Baltimore.
“Well, I see Michelle over here, and she helps decorate my office wall. We have a picture of Derrick going up on my wall, so what does that tell you?
: @Ravens pic.twitter.com/tLVHGBTFPP
— Sarah Ellison (@sgellison) February 25, 2025
If we want Derrick Henry to continue to have success in Charm City, there needs to be a strong line in front of him.
