Survival Pending Revolution: The Black Panther Party Service to the People Programs

The Black Panther Party Museum Announces Groundbreaking Exhibit Honoring the Black Panther Party’s Survival Programs
Oakland, CA, 2024 – The Black Panther Party Museum is proud to announce the opening of its newest exhibition, Survival Pending Revolution: The Black Panther Party Service to the People Programs, a tribute to one of the most impactful community empowerment initiatives in American history. The exhibit will open to the public with a special program on February 13, 2025.
This dynamic exhibition delves into the history, methodology and enduring legacy of the life-changing survival programs created by the Black Panther Party during the 1960s and 1970s. Visitors will explore how the Panthers fed children, set up health clinics, opened schools, and offered other critical resources to underserved communities, setting a precedent for grassroots activism and mutual aid efforts that continue to inspire movements today.
In the face of police violence, poverty, and repression, the Panthers declared: “We serve the people, body and soul” from Oakland, California to communities worldwide. As the museum’s parent organization, the Dr. Huey P. Newton Foundation, celebrates its 30th anniversary, Survival Pending Revolution, is a tribute and a call to action – urging us to reimagine and implement the Panthers’ blueprint for survival and liberation.
Through a rich blend of historical artifacts, photographs, newspapers, and video, the exhibition reveals how these programs were conceived and executed — and how they inspire action today.
“The Black Panther Party’s survival programs were a beacon of hope and resilience in a time of great inequality and unrest,” said Dr. Xavier Buck, Co-founder of The Black Panther Party Museum. “Through this exhibit, we aim to honor their legacy and show how their vision for justice and community empowerment remains deeply relevant today – especially today.”
The exhibit is designed for visitors of all ages. The Black Panther Party Museum is committed to fostering dialogue and education around community empowerment, self-sufficiency, and equity, and this exhibit is a significant part of that mission.
