(MADE FOR THIS PURPOSE) It could be his hair but the ear has also a different color. The eyes were closed and mouth open and it looked like the blood and running streams of blood was done with a ketchup bottle nozzle when you squeeze it and you move it quickly from side to side to make a broader stream of blood.
