NASA Releases Strange Sound from Moon
In May 1969, during the Apollo 10 mission, astronauts heard a strange whistling sound described as “outer-space-type music” while orbiting the far side of the Moon. The sound was captured on audio recordings and later released by NASA in 2016, sparking interest and speculation about its origin.
The astronauts, including Thomas Stafford, John Young, and Eugene Cernan, were concerned about the sound and debated whether to report it to their superiors, fearing it could affect their future missions However, NASA provided an explanation that the sound was likely caused by radio interference between the VHF radios in the lunar module and command module.
Michael Collins, who was part of the Apollo 11 mission and had been warned about similar sounds, noted that the interference could be frightening if not explained.
He wrote in his book, “Carrying the Fire,” that the sound was interference between the radios and that he had been warned about it beforehand.
Despite this explanation, some astronauts and enthusiasts, like Al Worden, have suggested that the sound might still be unexplained.
However, the consensus among NASA and other astronauts is that the sound was interference and not alien in origin
