World Patent Marketing Sued by FTC for Bilking Inventors Out of Millions of Dollars and Running a Patent Marketing Scam
By Jack Hudson HNNEWS
Hudson Net Newswires has been tracking a shocking story of fraud, misrepresentation, threats and international intrigue, all coming out of Miami, Florida and the firm of one Scott J. Cooper, CEO of World Patent Marketing. World Patent Marketing was a slick, sophisticated sounding, patent promotion and marketing firm, that liked to sell inventors on the idea that they could take their invention and give it a first class marketing effort. They were well versed in social media, had a celebrity advisory board, and ran slick video promos. They were even able to get some media attention for their efforts from a major network.
But all was not what it seemed on the outside. The real story is scattered throughout little known web sites, secret deals and rumors of fake endorsements, threats against unsatisfied clients, and worse. The end is not yet determined but one thing we know, there is now a concerted effort by the Federal Trade Commission and others, to shutdown World Patent Marketing and other ventures by Scott Cooper, for good. Unfortunately, it has come too late for some of the inventors that the FTC says were bilked out of millions (see https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/press-releases/2017/03/ftc-halts-invention-promotion-scheme-charged-bilking-millions ).
Malinda Ramsey, claims to be one of those victims. She said she paid World Patent Marketing $7,095.00 with no results. “I don’t even know if they did anything they said they would do. They supposedly filed a provisional patent for me in April 2016 and I have asked them many times for a filing receipt, but I still have not gotten one”.
Donald Krsacok says he knows the story all too well. “I have read everything and it is exactly what has been done to me. I have been working with WPM for about 1 year and 1 month now. I have invested 140 K now and all I have is a picture of my invention. They referred me to a 3rd party patent attorney for which I don’t trust either now. I’m not sure if my 3 patents are even real now. Have my life savings involved with nowhere to turn!”
According to news reports from Tony Pipitone of NBC 6 in Miami (see https://www.nbcmiami.com/investigations/Judge-Extends-Freeze-on-Accused-Scammers-Assets-418650953.html ), others included an emotionally disabled 25-year-old New York farmer who dreamed up Socially Accepted, a social networking site for people like him or others with Downs syndrome and autism, to help them find friends, a North Carolina man who invented a device, Teddy’s Ballie Bumpers, to prevent toys from rolling too far under sofas and other furniture, and a Broward County surgeon who envisioned millions of people buying his idea, SmartNet, an elastic netting snapped onto the backs of smart phones and tablets – to secure objects that might get dropped or lost.
They and many more, are all said to be victims of World Patent Marketing and Scott J. Cooper.
In future stories, we will take you behind the scenes, talk to some of the investigators, show you the evidence and reveal a conspiracy to expand the reach of World Patent Marketing beyond the invention promotion scams and into futuristic technology research, claimed to be worth 500 million dollars, or more. But is it? We’ll also reveal the media and other institutions that acted as enablers for this effort, on an unprecedented level.
