Stations of the Cross: Fourth Station Jesus meets his Blessed Mother
Stations of the Cross
Fourth Station
Jesus meets his Blessed Mother
We adore you O Christ and we Praise you
Because by your Holy Cross you have redeemed the world
Poem
Simeon had held the Christ Child in joyful exaltation
Every promise from God revealed, a fulfilled expectation
Yet a sword would pierce the soul of Mary, bringing sorrow
Her eyes met her son’s, Christ the souls’ ultimate compañero
A pain beyond words flooded her whole being as her tears fell
A brief tenderness descended as he whispered “all will be well”
Reflection
Crawling back up from the dirt, the cross was placed once more upon the shoulders of Christ. He stood upright and was met by his Blessed Mother Mary, who was standing beside him. Was this a vision? An oasis in a desert of pain, a moment of fleeting love in the cauldron of abandonment, pain and hatred? Mary stood close to her son, hugging his bruised bleeding frame. The noise of the crowd faded as the look between them spoke of eternity. The Garden of Eden with its lush green and vibrant beauty became the backdrop of this meeting, filling their hearts and consciousness for a fleeting moment in time, but very much outside time too. This meeting was the purest love, marveling in it’s abundance, a last earthly dance between Son and Mother, that sword predicted by Blessed Simeon, pierced her soul, as sorrow invaded her dreams of his suffering ending! She bade a farewell to the garden of peace and her tears flowed. Her Son pressed his heart upon his Mothers, an imprint of the bond forever between them and he turned and walked on up that awful hill, towards his certain death.
