We seem to have forgotten that Money talks and Money makes the world go round.
There is an uncanny situation in the world of media today: opinions and commentaries within mainstream media form what can be described as a monolith of consensus and synchronized support for the propaganda of the powers that be; likewise a chorus of criticism and opposition to the pillars of modern imperialism has been forming in the alternative “independent” media. The divide between the main stream and the small reactionary side stream is growing and none the twain shall meet or talk. This means there is little public debate or insight concerning the serious matters of our day – the supporters and antagonist of the status quo have no joint forum. This is not too different from the way things worked in previous decades and centuries, except that in the past it was difficult for anyone to hear from the alternatives, the underground critics and revolutionaries and to discover how much censorship and media control the governments were capable of. Today the alternative media of the Internet has exposed all this, at least for those few who care to educate themselves properly.
Unfortunately, the alternative “independent” media relies heavily on advertising and the journalists, contributors and website managers are mostly volunteers or working for comparatively small change. There was an old saying: “Money makes the world go round” and in years gone by people believed that. Money creates, supports and controls mainstream media. That’s why mainstream media has been so successful as an agent of BIG Money and government propaganda. But we seem to have forgotten that these days.
What makes the matter even worse for seekers of the truth is that paid agents of the establishment have been flooding the alternative internet media with so much misinformation, rumours, false alarms and intriguing but unsubstantiated conspiracy theories that it becomes almost impossible for the average person to distinguish between sources of real, factual information and the cleverly disguised sources of misinformation. That’s one of the easiest ways to throw people off the scent, confuse them with misinformation and waste their time. Pseudonyms, anonymous contributors become the norm on the internet, and also “name suppressed for obvious reasons” so there’s little check on credibility nor reputations. Even editors of websites offering “independent” news can fall for these clever tricks. Sadly, too, independent journalists who are not thrown off the scent and get too close to publishing the scandalous facts and cannot be silenced through bribery or threats are “suicided” or “accidented.” It’s an uphill battle.
Conclusion: Money talks, or gags and it seldom talks the truth. Even this commentary, as close to the truth as it may be will be overlooked or ignored by most visitors to the website becuase it’s not what they want to hear. The proportion of alert and truly educated people in the world today is still so small that it’s relatively insignificant. We need a system for filtering out agents of misinformation; a system that BIG Money cannot interfere with, override nor corrupt.
