The renewed American-British-Israeli-Turkish-NATO assault on Syria was to be expected. Syria, Russia and Iran didn’t conclusively win the war. They failed to demolish the terrorist strongholds along the Turkey-Syria border. And they became too complacent over the last five years. They went to sleep.
Just a month ago I read reports that Assad was reaching out to Erdogan to sign off on a potential deal. When a country is led by such a naive leader its security is always in danger.
Assad’s regime hasn’t survived because of the man’s strategic brilliance or natural charisma as a leader. If it weren’t for the necessary interventions by Russia, Hezbollah and Iran that regime would have been history a decade ago.
And there’s nothing wrong with having strong allies. Israel couldn’t survive without America and England. Countries are allowed to have strong allies. But the Assad regime has let its allies down time and time again by not making political compromises with its internal enemies.
The regime was not gracious in victory and now a new war has been unleashed against it. Savages from Central Asia and the world over, via Turkey, are descending upon it once again. This time Hezbollah isn’t as strong as it once was, while Russia is busy defending itself in Ukraine, a more urgent task than helping Assad stay in power.
