We know through Getty Images’ VisualGPS research that searches are declining on the theme of sustainability. However, we are seeing a shift from abstract notions of sustainability to more concrete visual representations of specific issues solutions, aiming to connect with consumers emotionally with the topics at hand. For consumers, the climate crisis is still the number one concern for people both in the Asia?Pacific region as well as globally. This makes it fundamental to show how you as a business are working to help the climate crisis—one way could be through sustainable urban agriculture.
Singapore, a highly urbanised city?state, has embraced urban farming as a crucial strategy to enhance food security and sustainability. With limited land and heavy reliance on food imports—over 90% of its food supply comes from abroad—the government has actively promoted urban agriculture to increase local food production. In 2019, Singapore introduced the “30 by 30” goal, aiming to produce 30% of its nutritional needs locally by 2030.1
In response to the growing demand for visualising urban farming, we conducted three distinct shoots in Singapore, capturing the diversity of urban agriculture through a community farm, a high?tech vertical farm and a community garden. These three types of urban farms reflect the evolving landscape of local food production in Singapore.
