Savitribai Phule’s Legacy Honoured: A Beacon For Women’s Empowerment
On the 193rd birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, tributes poured in for the trailblazer of women’s education and social reform. At an event organized by BSS leaders at Chilakaladona KGBV School on Friday, her legacy was celebrated with calls to emulate her courage and commitment to equality.

Honouring the Mother of Education
Chilakaladona – Andhra Pradesh (Before It’s News – IC): Under the chairmanship of KGBV Principal Shanti and BSS State Secretary Boya Vijayudu, the event commenced with floral tributes to Savitribai Phule’s portrait. State President Ramatirtham Amaresh described her as a fearless woman who shattered barriers to educate women and the oppressed.
“She is an indelible name in our history. At a time when women were denied education, she pursued learning with her husband’s support and dedicated her life to empowering the marginalized,” Amaresh said.
Pioneer in women’s education and social reform
Principal Shanti highlighted Savitribai’s monumental efforts in establishing 50 schools for women and her fight against oppressive practices like Sati and child marriage.
“She was not just an educator but a social reformer who advocated widow remarriage laws and raised awareness among oppressed classes through the Satyashodhak Samaj,” Shanti said.

A humanitarian in times of crisis
Shanti recounted Savitribai’s humanitarian work during famines in 1869-70 and the devastating plague of 1895. “She fearlessly provided food and medical aid to the homeless during the plague, eventually sacrificing her life in 1897,” she said.
Great inspiration for today’s students
Ramatirtham Amaresh urged students to draw inspiration from Savitribai’s resilience. “Follow her footsteps and aim for higher peaks in life. Her life is a testament to perseverance and the pursuit of equality,” he said.
BSS District Secretary Prasanna, along with KGBV teachers Bhramaramba, Lakshmidevi, Ramakrishnaveni, Anasuya, Bhagya, and non-teaching staff participated in the event.
The program concluded with a collective resolve to carry forward Savitribai’s mission of education and social justice, reaffirming her relevance in contemporary society.
