ETHICS ESSENTIALS
SPJ’s 15th annual Ethics Week is next week!
SPJ Ethics Committee Chair Andrew Seaman and Immediate Past President Lynn Walsh will conduct a webinar at noon EDT April 25 that will be an introduction to the SPJ Code of Ethics and how to bring it into newsrooms and day-to-day journalism.
You can also join Seaman and the ethics committee for an “Inside the Newsroom” Twitter chat at noon EDT April 26. Everyone is encouraged to participate and share what happens behind-the-scenes as journalists. Join the conversation by using #PressForEthics.
And on April 27, Walsh will talk all things journalism ethics on The Jim Bohannon Show at 11 p.m. EDT. Find a station here and tune in!
Know someone who would be a great member of SPJ? Invite them to join next week for a special Ethics Week rate in honor of 15 years of SPJ Ethics Week. New professional members can join for $15 off the regular price and new supporter members can join for $15. Spread the word!
GIVE A LITTLE
The goal of SPJ’s #Press4Education initiative is to get journalists into K-12 classrooms across the country. The project provides lesson plans, PowerPoint presentations and other resources for journalists who want to volunteer. Sign up to volunteer and be matched with a classroom here, and share this form with educators you know who would like a journalist to come to their classroom.
