Transforming Through Music – How Dion Todd Turned His Life Around with Music
One of the most notable things about music is that you will often hear artists stating how music helped to change their life. This isn’t just an empty claim that musicians make. Music has been shown to change the life of a person because it gives them alternate paths, keeps them occupied and also helps them to break away from negative habits.
By spending their time productively, a person who everyone had previously given up on can make a huge difference in their own lives. This isn’t just a phenomenon which pertains to rappers and pop musicians either. The change that music makes in someone’s life can also apply to DJs and more. One such person who was able to use music to change his life is none other than Dion Todd, a Canadian pop and dance music artist.
When he was only 8 years old, Dion life circumstances were not the best and he lived in a shelter along with this mother and sister. At that time, a child support worker noted that unless changes were made, Dion would not amount to much in his life. However, Dion was naturally gifted in music and showed an affinity to it at a young age.
Given this skill, his mother decided to get him enrolled in the Cambridge Kiwanis Boys Choir. Not only did Dion excel here but very soon became the head soloist of the choir. This also earned him the opportunity to tour Europe and North America with the choir. Moreover, he also got a look at the recording industry when he was involved with the recording of a solo single for the choir’s Christmas Favorites albums.
Dion allowed his passion for music to guide him, as he grew older too. During high school, he focused on performing arts and studied instrumental and vocal music. At this time, he also learnt how to play nearly 10 different musical instruments. It was only natural that Dion would choose to pursue a career in music.
Dion soon saw success with the release of his hits namely; Maybe, Magic and remake of the 2005 megahit song by Corey Hart called Never Surrender. All these songs, including Never Surrender were featured in various compilation albums, which were best-selling. Never Surrender also earned a place in the R&R Mediabase CHR/Pop Top 30. It also helped Dion win three nominations for the East Coast Music Awards in Canada.
Despite his success in the music industry, Dion wanted more and decided to take a short hiatus to pursue his education as well as focus on different entrepreneurial pursuits. In 2017, the boy who was told he would never mature to become more graduated from MIT (The Massachusetts Institute of Technology) with an MBA (Master of Business Administration).
Armed with both business acumen and his passion and understanding for the music industry, Dion has continued to release hit after hit since his return to the music industry in 2017. In 2019, he earned his fourth nomination for the East Coast Music Awards and two nominations for the Independent Music Awards.
His success earned him the MusicNL (Music Newfoundland) Telegram Fan’s Choice Entertainer of the Year award in 2020. Dion’s success with music has also pushed him to inspire others to make use of music and see how the medium can help to change their lives.
He focuses on passionately inspiring others to change their lives, especially children from difficult life circumstances, just like he did. Dion can personally relate to such individuals because he himself made the grueling journey to turn his life around.
