Newspeak Dictionary Update: Hinduphobic
Normally, Newspeak Dictionary updates consist of deletions, so as to limit thought by limiting speech. But where it advances moonbattery, additions are allowed — like the new word “Hinduphobic”:
The University of Houston has defended its Lived Hindu Religion course after it sparked a controversy following allegations of it being “Hinduphobic” and distorting “India’s political landscape”. India Today Digital exclusively reported on the matter after Vasant Bhatt, a political science major at the university and Hindu-American activist, raised concerns over the course and filed a written complaint.
Why do UH educrats side against a sacred Student of Color? Possibly because the course consists of moonbattery:
The Lived Hindu Religion course, which UH offers to students online, consists of video lectures delivered by Professor Aaron Michael Ullrey weekly.
“Hinduism, according to Professor Ullrey, was not an ancient, lived tradition but a colonial construct, a political tool weaponised by Hindu nationalists, and a system of oppression against minorities,” Bhatt, who had joined the course, told India Today Digital earlier.
Ullrey may favor Islam, which is more politically correct than Hinduism due to its violent hostility toward the West:
While speaking to India Today Digital earlier, Bhatt also shared a quote from the syllabus that said the word ‘Hindu’ is recent and “not found in scriptures”. “Hindutva, or ‘Hindu-ness’, is a term that Hindu nationalists, those who believe Hinduism should be the official religion of India, use to designate their religion and denigrate others, namely Islam,” the quote said.
Even if UH fails to heed Bhatt’s denunciation of the course, please welcome the neologism “Hinduphobic” to the Newspeak Dictionary. Indian-Americans are said to be the highest earning ethnic group in the USA, making double the national median. But the concept of Hinduphobia might still intersectionally augment the oppressed status they achieve by not being Caucasian.
