Thylacoleo ancestors in the LRT
Short one today
as graphics (Fig 1) tell the tale.
Figure 1. Thylacoleo ancestors in the LRT include Wakaleo, the Apatemyidae + Labidolemur.

Once again
phylogenetic miniaturization from Dactylopsila to Labidolemur (Fig 1) marks the genesis of the Apatemyidae, now including the marsupial lions, Thylacoleo and Wakaleo (Fig 1) as their largest members.
We first looked at Wakaleo and Apatemys a few weeks ago here.

Extant Dactylopsila
(Fig 2) was basal to several marsupial clades in the LRT.
PS
At the same time a tiny Late Jurassic echidna-like monotreme, Fruitafossor, has taken a second-tier (red) position in the LRT. It ws removed from the matrix for lacking any skull parts. A mandible is known. That brought about more resolution to the LRT.
This still appears to be a novel hypothesis of interrelationships.
If not, please provide a citation so I can promote it here.
