Ravens Stock Report Week 12

The Ravens left LA with a very solid win against a quality opponent. Lamar Jackson continues to play well, and they rode Derrick Henry and an improving pass defense. Now, they run into the buzz saw that has been the Philadelphia Eagles and Lamar puts his impressive record vs the NFC on the line.

Here is your Week 12 Ravens Stock Report courtesy of LifeMed Institute. Men, boost your energy and restore your body to its peak performance with testosterone therapy from LifeMed.

Stock Up

Malik Harrison

Harrison played at a high level and was the team’s highest rated PFF defender. He got lost and out of position a few times early and tends to do poorly in zone coverage, but overall, he played an excellent game and filled in for the injured Roquan Smith very nicely.

Nate Wiggins

Wiggins continues to see his snap count rise. He did give up five catches for 66 yards, but he was targeted 10 times, had multiple PBUs, kept all of his receivers in front of him, and didn’t allow YAC. He has been impressive overall and is gaining the trust of the coaches more and more every week.

Tale of the Tape: Nate Wiggins Passes the Test on MNF

Derrick Henry

After a few substandard weeks, Henry had a big game this week. Everyone is calling for Henry to get the ball 20+ times and while I agree with that, I also understand that the Ravens may be trying to keep him as fresh as possible. I am hoping for him to get 20+ carries this week and then the bye week comes. After that, maybe you limit his carries against the Giants, to keep him as fresh as possible for that December Pittsburgh game. He is obviously a huge key for what will be a tough playoff run.

Ravens Pass Defense

The pass defense has been terrible this year (although some of the yardage they have let up is garbage time makes it look even worse).  Still, this is back-to-back weeks where the Ravens pass defense held up well. They have gone from the worst in passing yards allowed per game to second worst!

Now, that’s obviously not good either but it is at least trending in the right direction. There is a big gap to the next team, so it’s not likely they will get much better in the stat rankings but as long as they show improvement the rest of the year, that is what matters.  It also helps that the pass rush continues to be strong. This will help the secondary as well.  Kyle Hamilton playing deep safety is also giving opposing QBs something else to think about. It may make the run defense a little worse, but they can stand to do that.

Stock Down

Diontae Johnson

He is struggling to even get snaps. When the Ravens acquired him, I think it was obvious that it was for insurance and to make a few plays here and there, hopefully in January. Yes, he is likely still learning the offense, gaining chemistry with Lamar, etc..but it is interesting that he only managed to get six snaps Monday. He is a better WR than a guy like Nelson Agholor but can’t get the time over him right now. This is definitely not a failure of a pickup or anything like that. Just surprised he’s not seeing the field more. Perhaps after the bye.

Penalties

The Ravens had nine more penalties for 102 yards. This is obviously a huge ongoing problem. However, I bring it up this week because I think its getting to the point where their reputation precedes them, and refs are calling them for penalties that look like they could be penalties but actually aren’t (or at least they are 50/50 calls at best and the refs are just calling them).

Examples are a few of the DPI calls and the Pat Ricard leg whip call. If you squint and really want to look for it, you can maybe see some small reason to call that, but stuff like that happens all the time and doesn’t get called.

The Ravens seem to get more judgement calls against them than any other team in the league and some of that is because refs are not giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Just one more thing to overcome. Hopefully in the postseason the “let ’em play” credo holds true.

Lamar’s Running

Lamar missed practice a few times recently with some normal in season wear and tear. Since then, he has two games where he averaged less than 2.0 yards per carry and another where he was just under 5.0 (well below his average). Overall, his YPC is down almost two yards the last four weeks from the previous eight. He seems a little hesitant to run at times right now. Is that by design? Is he trying to save himself? My guess is it is a combination of everything. Another thing to keep an eye out for after the bye and in January.
