Upon Further Review: Jets get Glimpse of Future in Loss to Seahawks

Olu Fashanu Olu Fashanu

Forget for a moment that the Jets are certain to find a way to get it wrong with their next GM and head coach hire and you may experience a moment of (misguided) optimism.  In taking a second look at this past Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, there were some very good performances from the Jets youngest stars.

DE Will McDonald: Prior to kickoff, McDonald had gone four games without a sack after picking up eight in the previous seven games.  He got back on track against Seattle though, picking up a pair of sacks despite being held on several plays.

CB Sauce Gardner: While Gardner did give up a 28-yard reception to mammoth wide receiver DK Metcalf, he looked more like the Sauce of years one and two than year three.  Gardner was targeted five times and came away with a pair of pass break ups, including one in the end zone, and zero missed tackles.

LT Olu Fashanu: In his second career start at left tackle, Fashanu pitched a shutout.  We didn’t see a single rep that Fashanu lost in pass pro and a peek at the numbers from PFF confirmed it.  For Fashanu, he finished with 42 pass block reps and zero pressures, hits or sacks allowed.

RB Isaiah DavisDavis had very limted opportunities but made the most of it.  After finding the end zone for the first time in his career in the first quarter, Davis made his best play later on.  While facing a 3rd & 26, Davis caught a short pass from a scrambling Aaron Rodger and got it down to 4th & 2 with a 24 yard gain.

C Joe Tipmann: Tippmann earned the team’s highest PFF grade of the day on offense at 76.7.  Tippmann has been an underappreciated player this season with the offense as a whole being terrible.  But in all reality, Tippmann has done a very nice job at the pivot.
