Knee-Jerk Reactions: Ravens Sign Pat Ricard to One-Year Extension

The Ravens and fullback Pat Ricard came to terms on a one-year, fully guaranteed extension.

A favorite among teammates and fans alike, Pat Ricard is an easy player to re-sign, especially at a lower APY (and even lower cap hit) than his last deal. He’ll combine with Derrick Henry for a nearly-550 pound backfield again in 2025 with plenty of usage as an inline blocker as well. The sudden availability of Kyle Jusczyk may have motivated Ricard to sign this inexpensive deal, but it was hard to imagine him playing elsewhere in the first place.

The Ravens still have flexibility to make more moves, though they can be expected to continue their pattern of searching for value rather than making a splash.

By re-signing Pat Ricard, the Ravens bring back an important piece of their offense.

It feels like, with this cheap one year deal and the news of Stanley’s low cap hit in 2025, that the Ravens are positioning themselves to bring on a bigger contract (maybe Joey Bosa?) and perhaps trying to really go for it in 2025.

The Ravens have been able to sit back and laugh at what the rest of the division is doing, while they continue to make solid moves.

This one seemed like a no-brainer. With as much as Todd Monken’s offense relies on the skilled blocking and presence of Pat, you had a feeling that they weren’t about to let him walk.

I heard a few people kick around the idea of brining in Kyle Juszczyk, which I think would’ve been a fine option, but why give up the in-house candidate that you could likely get on a lower AAV? I’m good with Ricard staying here, and I’m happy that he’s staying in town.

Now let’s see what else the boys in the lab are cooking up. With Ronnie’s base salary a low number and Ricard not breaking the bank, you figure there’s some cash to be found in potential extensions. If the Ravens are freeing up money to take a swing at a bigger candidate, I’d love to know who it is.

This should come as no surprise and makes sense for both sides. When Todd Monken arrived the question was if there would be a role for Pat. Two years later and now with Derrick Henry on the roster it would be a real shame not to have Ricard. Kyle Juszczyk could have been a backup option and his release only helped the Ravens in an almost non-existent fullback market. Happy to have this deal done.
