Netherlands: 11-Year-Old Girl Stabbed to Death in Broad Daylight
It has happened again-this time in the Netherlands. In the community of Nieuwegein (Utrecht province), an 11-year-old girl from Eritrea was stabbed to death in broad daylight. A 29-year-old man, reportedly from Syria, was arrested near the scene. According to neighbors, they had earlier alerted police numerous times about the man’s strange behavior.

Utrecht- An 11-year-old girl was stabbed to death Saturday on Anemoon Street in Nieuwegein. First aid was given on the street, but in the afternoon came the report that she died of her wounds. Not far from the crime scene, a 29-year-old suspect was arrested, according to Utrecht police. Residents say they have long been worried about the man.
A medical team sped to the scene by helicopter after the violence was reported. Anemoon Street was largely cordoned off for the investigation and was soon filled with police cars, as can be seen in the images. A white screen was set up on the street.
As yet, nothing is clear about the incident. Witnesses are asked to come forward. “The police are continuing the investigation.”
Neighbors say that the family (of the victim) is originally from Eritrea. The girl would have celebrated her birthday on Friday. As for the arrested man, according to people in the neighborhood, he was reported at least three times to the authorities on account of his confused behavior. Victim assistance
A spokesperson for the police states that victim assistance is available for neighbors who witnessed the tragedy. At the place where the girl died screens have been placed to shield her (from view). The police are conducting an investigation there. In addition, the street where it happened, Anemoon Street, is closed off.
“People are emotional. They are shocked, anxious, and sad,” the spokesperson says. “We are at the scene, and for those who need it, we are giving an arm around the shoulder.” The neighborhood residents have seen how the ambulance services and trauma helicopter responded on Saturday.
Mayor of Nieuwegein speaks of “nightmare” The mayor of Nieuwegein, Marijke van Bekering, speaks of a “black page for the relatives and for Nieuwegein”. “What happened here today is horrible. Our thoughts now go out, first of all, to the relatives, family, and friends of the victim,” said Van Bekering, who called the tragedy “a nightmare for everyone”.
