No negotiations on Ukraine without Ukraine now sounds like an illusion of self-hypnosis. 

Zelensky called the US-Russia negotiations on Ukraine without Kyiv’s participation “very dangerous.” The president commented on Trump’s statements that American and Russian officials are “already talking” about ending the war. Trump also said that his administration is conducting “very serious” negotiations with Russia. 

“They may have their own relations, but talking about Ukraine without us is dangerous for everyone,” Zelensky said. 

He said that his team is in contact with the Trump administration, but these discussions are taking place at a “general level,” and he believes that personal meetings will take place in the near future to work out more detailed agreements. 

Russia does not want to negotiate a ceasefire or discuss any concessions that the Kremlin interprets as a loss, while its troops have an advantage on the battlefield, Zelensky told the Associated Press. Key points from the interview:

- Trump could force Putin to the negotiating table by threatening sanctions against Russia’s energy and banking sectors, as well as continued support for the Ukrainian army;
