Waddington WMO 03377 – An update – “spotting dubious data.”
In order to fully understand this update I recommend reading my original post here. As a precis I proved that, contrary to official claims, the Met Office had transferred data from one station (Scampton) to Waddington to basically fill up the blank pages. I also noted a claim of a record reading in July 2022 that seemed improbable. The digital archives now show an all time UK record temperature of 40.3°C recorded there that I was confident was incorrect – so I contacted the Met Office…….

Can you please advice what the maximum temperature recorded at the Waddington site was on the 19th July 2022?
The map from this report indicates 39.9°C though other references are showing a different figure.
Can you confirm please.
Regards
Ray Sanders”
Fairly straightforward question you would think and the only reply required was the recorded temperature on that date. What I received almost a month later was:

Dear Mr Sanders,
The 39.9C value on the map in the link you provided is not Waddington but it Cranwell or Scampton, both of whom recorder maximum temperatures of 39.9C that day.
At that time Waddington was having its temperature data marked as suspect as the grass under the screen had been treated with weed killer.
Kind regards,
Weather Desk”
So the data for Waddington was marked as “suspect” but the numbers were converted to the digital archive and historic record…really? {n.b. Scampton and Cranwell are 25 miles apart.} I replied.
As of today I have received no reply. The Met Office is clearly in a quandary. They have claimed “suspect readings” but numbers have been passed into the archives that can only have come from them . As I stated in my original post any future query of the Coningsby record reading can be hand waived away with no doubt “peer reviewed scientific” data proving that such a high temperature was also “recorded” elsewhere. Their second problem is how to continue the charade of being factually accurate – I seriously doubt they are prepared to admit to me that they have either made a mistake or further confirm that readings are transferred from one station to another….Or even the figure was conveniently inserted. “Human errors” as an excuse is wearing a bit thin – mistakes may be made with routine numbers but how likely with the alleged all time UK high?
I am posting this update as a means of forcing them into a response. I will forward this post to them to shake the tree to see what falls out.
