OTL: Ranking the Ravens’ Offseason Needs
I don’t know about you, but I’m still hurting over the screeching halt Baltimore’s 2024 season came to in Buffalo ten days ago. For some fans, it seems that the Bills’ similar fate has helped, but I’m just not there yet. Alas, here I am, and here are some early thoughts on Baltimore’s offseason needs.
I’ve provided some thoughts of my own on the Ravens’ outgoing free agents, and while I do think Ryan Mink hit the nail on the head with most needs, I don’t feel Safety would be in my top five if Ar’Darius Washington returns.
Rather, I prioritize the needs as such:
1. Left Side of OL
As Mink notes, the potential departures of Ronnie Stanley and Patrick Mekari are scary. While I do see at least one of them being brought back, they were question marks going into this past season, and may be even with the line’s play this year. Luckily, according to Ryan Fowler, a number of Tackles and Interior O-Lineman stood out in Day 1 of the Senior Bowl:
Standouts from the first session of 1s up front:
• North Dakota State iOL Grey Zabel
• Minnesota OT Aireontae Ersery
• Oregon OT Josh Conerly Jr
• NC State OT Anthony Belton
• Miami OL Jalen Rivers
• Utah iDL Junior Tafuna
• Marshall ED Mike Green
• Boston College ED…

Minnesota LT Aireontae Ersery basically dominating everyone today.

2. Cornerback
I don’t want to bury Brandon Stephens much more, but it was painfully obvious how impactful his play was. He’ll be testing the market and I expect him to land elsewhere. On the off chances he returns, the Ravens can’t rely on him on the outside.

While there are rumors of interest in Jaire Alexander, Daniel Jeremiah mocked FSU CB Azareye’h Thomas (seen here getting cooked by Oregon WR Tez Johnson) to Baltimore in his first rendition of the offseason. For me, the Ravens need another reliable, veteran corner to pair with Nate Wiggins while Marlon Humphrey mans the slot.
Lowest Passer Rating Allowed by a CB
Per NextGen Stats (min. 400 coverage snaps)1. Derek Stingley, Jr. 56.9
2. Marlon Humphrey 58.5
3. Patrick Surtain 59.1
4. Nate Wiggins 59.7
5. Kamari Lassiter 67.2— Matt Hamilton (@MattHamilton25) January 28, 2025
3. Pass Rusher
While many group this need as EDGE, I generally just feel Baltimore needs someone else to generate pressure, whether from the inside or out. Luckily, early signs from both analysts and the Senior Bowl indicate that this draft’s crop is strong:
Inside run just ended, had a few standouts:
– #Marshall EDGE Mike Green had some really nice reps setting the edge, blew up some run plays
– #BostonCollege EDGE Donovan Ezeiruaku torpedoed some run plays as well, strong as a run defender
– #Toledo DT Darius Robinson: problem— JP Acosta (@acosta32_jp) January 28, 2025
Good news for NFL fans just now starting to look at the 2025 Draft class:
* Great RB top-end talent and depth
* Underrated TE class, especially in top 3 rounds
* Versatile OT class with 5-6 really good players up top
* Great DT class–loaded in top 75 picks
* DE class has speed…— Matt Miller (@nfldraftscout) January 28, 2025
James Pearce Jr. to Baltimore would send shivers down my spine https://t.co/to87yMDggF

We may have Nnamdi Madubuike and Travis Jones, but this Walker guy from Kentucky looks insane so far. Either way, getting to the QB wins games, and you can never have too many guys to help out with it.
4. Inside LB
The position isn’t considered as valuable nowadays, but unless the Ravens expect Trenton Simpson to make major strides in 2025, I don’t think Roquan Smith’s running mate should be a revolving door. That said, returning Chris Board and Malik Harrison would be okay, given their play down the stretch.
5. Wide Receiver
We saw how dire things were without Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman. I’m optimistic about rookie Devontez Walker despite his lack of snaps in year one, but again, you can’t necessarily rely on him. With Nelson Agholor coming off an underwhelming year and heading into Free Agency, WR depth is the bigger need.
Alongside these needs, I do have an honorable mention (my way of making a way to mention Lamar Jackson), which would be backup QB. Josh Johnson is a great guy to have around, but I’d love to see Baltimore add a QB with the potential to win games if Jackson were to miss time.
Given playing style, likely draft position, and recent headlines, Jalen Milroe is the first that comes to mind:
Lamar is getting to that OG Unc QB stage where you going to see 100s of kids that were inspired to be like him grow up and get to NFL over next 10-20 years https://t.co/J57zvwONQa
