Report: Former Chicago Bears HC Matt Eberflus interviews for NFC South team

Matt Eberflus

The Chicago Bears fired head coach Matt Eberflus on November 29th, following a 6th straight defeat. Fans were rejoicing all over social media that morning, as their wishes had finally come true.

However, Eberflus is now gaining interest from across the league as a defensive coordinator. His strong suite was always on that side of the ball, so it makes sense.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter on X, the Atlanta Falcons have interviewed Eberflus for their defensive coordinator opening. This comes to no one’s shock, as Eberflus was expected to gain interest on that side of the ball, especially from a team like the Falcons, which struggled defensively towards the end of the season.

The Bears’ defense took a nose dive after the Eberflus firing. That may be because the team was already trending in the wrong direction, but it was noticeable nonetheless.

In the coming weeks, it will be interesting to see if the former Bears head coach gains any more interest from around the league. With so many openings, it wouldn’t be surprising if he did.

Not many people will argue that Eberlfus should still be the coach of the Bears, especially after the clear dissatisfaction that the locker room had with him. Even quarterback Caleb Williams continues to take shots at his former head coach, weeks after his firing.

The Bears’ focus now is finding a new face to run this team and control this locker room. With so many names entering the conversation, it’s become overwhelming and maybe too strung out.

It will be interesting to see who GM Ryan Poles and the rest of the front office choose in the coming weeks.
