The Chicago Bears could look to pursue a star wide receiver that fits Ben Johnson’s scheme

With Keenan Allen set to hit the open market this offseason, the Chicago Bears will be looking for a new receiver to join DJ Moore and Rome Odunze. Caleb Williams had the luxury of having a plethora of options to throw the ball to in his rookie season, despite the situation not being the greatest.

Moore led the way amongst Bears receivers with 966 yards on 98 catches. Odunze’s rookie season was solid as well amid all of the turnover on the offensive staff. The former Washington Huskie made 54 grabs for 734 yards and found the endzone three times.

The production from this group is hopeful to change in 2025 after Ben Johnson was named the 19th head coach in franchise history last week. The former Detroit Lions’ offensive guru will be tasked with turning Chicago into a team that focuses on that side of the ball for the first time in a while. Johnson loves to coach and work with speedy players on the outside, so a certain veteran who might be available could be of interest to the Bears’ front office.

Tyreek Hill could be an option for the Chicago Bears

Hill made headlines at the end of the season for comments that he made about his future in Miami. The Dolphins had an up-and-down season that was impacted majorly by injuries. Hill wasn’t getting the looks he wanted, and might be leaving south Florida because of it.

The 30-year-old had 959 receiving yards in 2024 to pair with his 81 receptions and six touchdowns. It’s impressive that Hill nearly had 1,000 yards on the campaign with the time that Tua Tagovailoa missed. Hill had back-to-back seasons with more than 1,700 yards prior to 2024 and still has the potential to be a big play option in an explosive offense.

Hill still has one year remaining on the three year, $90 million deal he agreed to with Miami following a trade from Kansas City. That will be a tough sell for the Dolphins if they are looking to unload his contract elsewhere, but Hill’s resume speaks for itself and could be a huge point of emphasis for a team looking to take their offense to the next level.

Ben Johnson’s scheme would mesh well with Tyreek Hill

Hill explosive play style would fit Johnson’s style well in the new look Bears’ offense. Johnson had plenty of speed in Detroit between guys like Jameson Williams, Josh Reynolds and Kalif Raymond. While Hill would be a significant upgrade compared to those three players, he still fits the mold of being the speedster on the outside that Johnson would thrive with.

With Hill comes a couple of negative things to keep an eye on. For starters, the contract he is on right now might not be something that the Chicago Bears front office would want to take on. The cap space that they have available to them this offseason is nice, but the Hill contract would take up nearly half of it. For a team that needs to add three offensive linemen and an edge rusher through free agency and the draft, that massive contract could certainly handcuff Chicago.

Hill’s issues in the locker room could be a massive red flag as well. For a franchise that is looking to build a strong culture and reestablish their identity, a guy who has had issues in the past like Hill could make things more difficult than they need to be.
