Top Fantasy Football Waiver Adds for Week 14
It’s do-or-die time in fantasy football.
If you’re like a lot of fantasy managers heading into the final week of the regular season, you’re sitting on the cusp of a playoff berth, needing a win and maybe a little bit of luck to get a ticket to the dance. And, as injuries continue to pile up (looking at you, San Francisco), there’s a good chance you’re finding yourself needing to turn to the free agent pool to fill roster holes in Week 14—and load up for the postseason.
So, who should you be looking to grab?
Recap
I know I’m kind of beating a dead horse at this point, but man do I love the fantasy weapon Bucky Irving has become in his rookie year. In the early weeks of the season, I noted his elite speed and receiving prowess as reasons why he could develop into a solid fantasy contributor… and, boy, has he ever. The Oregon product notched his second straight 27-point performance Sunday, converting 25 carries (!) into 152 yards (!) and a score against the Panthers. His receiving work was limited (3 catches, 33 yards), but this game shows just how dynamic Irving has become. Facing the Giants in Week 12, he had a nearly identical fantasy output, but he made his impact far differently. Tampa Bay only gave him 12 carries, and he turned that into a very good 88 rushing yards and a touchdown. In the receiving game, he reeled in six passes for 64 yards. Impressive, to say the least. Since Week 5, Irving has dipped below 15 fantasy points just once and has topped 17 points four times. He’s going to be one of my top targets in the draft next summer, and the needle is pointing up for the young RB.
Irving aside, who should you be looking to add to help you down the final stretch?
Parker Washington – WR, JAX (0.9% rostered)
Washington is an intriguing pickup, to say the least. A sixth-round pick in 2023, he suddenly finds himself as the WR2 in Jacksonville. And although Trevor Lawrence was sidelined for most of Sunday’s game against the Texans, the second-year pass catcher showed up and showed out for backup Mac Jones. Washington drew 12 looks, catching six of them for 103 yards and a touchdown. That performance was good for 24.3 fantasy points, by far his best fantasy production of the season.
Can Washington be expected to put up numbers like this week in and week out? Absolutely not. There’s just too much uncertainty in the situation around him. Lawrence took a nasty hit from Azeez Al-Shaair and is slated to miss time. Mac Jones should be a solid-but-unspectacular fill-in, but I have to wonder how motivated the Jags will be to win games down the stretch. At 2-10, they’re in prime contention for the #1 overall draft pick, so the motivation to continue their losing ways is pretty high; after all, they’ve dropped each of their last five contests. I am, however, encouraged by Washington’s volume, although his catching efficiency is a bit concerning. He’s a solid bet to get seven-ish targets per game the rest of the way, and if he can bring in more of those passes, he enters the WR3/FLEX conversation. Washington is available in over 99% of leagues, so you shouldn’t have trouble stashing him on your bench.
Elijah Moore – WR, CLE (13.4% rostered)
As I’m writing this, the Monday Night Football game is still just entering the 4th quarter. That hasn’t stopped Elijah Moore from having another solid day at the office. I mentioned Moore a few weeks ago in a Free Agents article, and he’s continued to get good volume in the passing game. As of the time of this writing, Moore has again logged 10+ targets and has 16.8 fantasy points due to a seven-catch, 97-yard performance.
This marks the fourth time in the last five games that Moore has gotten at least eight looks in the passing game. His fantasy performance, on the other hand, has been less than consistent. In that five-game span, Moore has eclipsed 16 points three times… and has also dropped a pair of five-point duds. His production hasn’t been touchdown-dependent (he only has one score on the year), which makes him a puzzling fantasy option, to say the least. Still, his highs should be intriguing for fantasy managers, especially if you’re thin at wide receiver. Moore serves as a solid depth piece and is in the low-end WR3/FLEX conversation.
Jameis Winston – QB, CLE (9.5% rostered)
For as bad as the Browns have been, they sure have some good fantasy pieces on offense. Again, as I’m writing this, their game in Denver hasn’t finished, but Jameis Winston has had another very strong night. So far, he’s thrown for 446 yards and tossed four touchdowns on 30-of-49 passing. He did throw an interception, but his performance at the moment has been good for an impressive 34.3 fantasy points. Like the aforementioned Moore, Winston has been far from the most consistent option at quarterback. Despite that, however, he’s managed three 23+ point performances in his last five starts. That said, his other two showings over that stretch have been less than spectacular. I’m still encouraged by his ceiling, and he should be readily added as a QB2 and is a low-end starting play if you don’t have any other options.
As always, good luck!
