Former Chicago Bears player expresses desire to possibly join the organization

The Chicago Bears are in the midst of their search for a new head coach to hopefully turn around this Bears team to make them a playoff-caliber team for next season. If the Bears can add a couple more pieces to their offensive line to pair with starting right tackle Darnell Wright and recent wavier claim Jordan McFadden who the Bears picked up from the Los Angeles Chargers.

With the need to fill many vacancies, and one former Bears player Greg Olsen was frank about his desires to possibly join the Bears.

On a recent appearance on the Waddle and Silvy show former NFL Tight-End and Chicago Bear Greg Olsen expressed his desire to get into an NFL front office and build a team of his own. Olsen was drafted by the Bears in the first round 31st overall of the 2007 NFL Draft and played four seasons with the Bears from 2007-2010. In his Bears career, Olsen had 194 receptions, 1,981 yards, 20 touchdowns, and a catch percentage of 59.5%. The Bears ultimately traded Olsen to the Carolina Panthers back on July 29th, 2011, which is where he blossomed.

Since retiring Olsen has been one of the best commentators the NFL has to offer giving valuable insight on plays, reads on routes, and dissecting defenses perfectly for fans to understand. However, it seems like Olsen has the itch to get into a front-office role in the NFL and the Bears are on his radar.

Would it make sense for the Chicago Bears to hire Olsen?

During the interview, Olsen inserted into the conversation that he had shown a desire to possibly be the Bear’s President of Football Operations by saying:

“I thought you were going to say the Bears were going to hire me to President of Football Operations and I was going to work alongside them, and we were going to get things back to where it belongs. Adding in “The McCaskey family has my number.”

When asked flat out if he wanted to be a President of Football Ops in the NFL and run a team Olsen said:

“Yeah, there’s no question in my mind.”

Possibly bringing in Olsen to be the Bear’s top guy in the front office to build an offensive-focused team around future star and franchise quarterback Caleb Williams would be amazing. Even if the bringing the 14-year-veteran into the front office isn’t a possibility Olsen could be a viable candidate for the Bears head coach. With former players like Dan Campbell of the Detroit Lions and DeMeco Ryans of the Houston Texans having the most recent success, Olsen could figure to be the next guy to do it.

With the search for the next head coach still ongoing and top candidate Ben Johnson possibly being out of the mix with the Las Vegas Raiders seeming like they’ll swoop in and take him; Greg Olsen could be a valuable sleeper candidate for the Bears to look into.
