Wrapping up Day 1 of Senior Bowl Practice in Mobile
For teams in the market for help in the trenches in the upcoming draft, the first day of Senior Bowl Practice in Mobile, Alabama could not have looked any better. Judging by what we saw on the NFL network’s coverage and through the eyes and ears in place on twitter, the big men stole the day.
OL Gray Zabel, NDSU: A name that popped up time and time again was little-known North Dakota state lineman Gray Zabel. Coaches moved Zabel up and down the line and he looked fantastic at every spot. We didn’t hear anyone talking about Zabel before yesterday, but now everyone is talking about him today.
OT Aireontae Ersery, Minnesota: Ersery got off to a slow start but once he settled down he reminded you of why some view him as a first round tackle. Having played on the left side at Minnesota, he may be asked to play the right as a pro.
DT Aeneas Peebles, Va Tech: Peebles is a guy whose explosiveness jumped off the film during the season and we saw more of that yesterday. Not a space eater as he checks in at 285, Peebles looks to continue being disruptive in the middle.
EDGE Jah Joyner, Minnesota: Another Golden Gopher at a premium position who is helping his draft stock down in Mobile. Of film we viewed Joyner as an edge player who can get to the QB working inside and out while also offering solid defense against the run.
DT Deone Walker, Kentucky: One of the more polarizing players in Mobile is Deone Walker. We’ve been a fan of his work since his freshman year at Kentucky as the 345 pound tackle has been used to line up both inside and out due to his unique athletic profile. He’s a smooth mover with a good spin move and has a high football IQ. However, his 2024 film showed too many instances of playing high and getting taken out of plays which was also the case yesterday on day 1. There was some talk of Walker playing through pain this season which could have been the case. But if his medicals check out, he has enough talent to be a round 1 selection.
OG Miles Frazier, LSU: Perhaps the most powerful interior lineman in this class, expect Frazier to put up big numbers at the combine come bench press time. He showed of that power on day 1 as he dominated 1-on-1 drills.
TE Elijah Arroyo, Miami: In an already deep class, Arroyo stole the day at tight end on day 1. The 251 pound pass catcher was fluid in and out of his breaks and did a great job of creating separation. This would be a good year for the Jets to draft two TE’s.
WR Jaylin Noel, Iowa State: Quick, fluid athlete with great hands, Noel stood out on day 1 and should be a steal on draft day if he falls outside of the top 50.
QB Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss: The best QB in Mobile this week, Dart was up and down on the first day which is to be expected for the quarterbacks. If anyone in this group can crack the first round, Dart could be the guy.
